THE WATER DILEMA
During a surf trip with some friends in the south side of Santa Catarina we had an unpleasant problem of getting out of water for a few days.
Without good waves during our trip at a place near Farol de Santa Marta, we started having problems with the old machine that pulls water from the ground, we didn't know if the problem was from the old machine or if the groundwater was getting dry. On the side I registered the moment our friend Pericles, was going up to check the water tank to see if the machine was really working out.
The problem of not having water was gettin worst everyday. All the things we should do with water like wash your hands, brush your teeth, using the toilet, taking a shower, or just cleaning the dishes, were impossible. At the second day we were getting really bored with this situation, and we were still trying to make the old machine from 1983 work out desperately, many dishes were dirty in the kitchen, the toilet was full of shit, and we couldn't even flush the toilet so we decided to go ask some neighbors for some water and stock water in coke bottles, watergalons and buckets we had found. That water was only to use on our most needs, like cleanning the dishes and flushing the toilet were the first things, we avoided taking showers or waste it somehow. It didn't last long until everyone decided to go back home, to the comfort of our urban side apartments and stop that unpleasent situation. We all had a hard conclusion that we can still live without eletric power, but we can't live too long without water. I really think that if people had at least a little experience like this, to live without water for one or two days, they would give it much more value and would try harder not to waste all this water we have right now.
